Thrift Haul: Shoes, Bags, and Outerwear

Here’s the thing about thrift store shopping…you have to keep going in order to be able to look past the junk, and to get over the fact the items are secondhand. I never thought I’d buy used shoes, because frankly, it’s kind of ew if you think too hard about it. But I’m totally over it now, and the change in mindset happens gradually step-by-step.  Also, I am now a proud owner of very specific cleaning products like saddle soap, suede cleaner, mink oil, and a horsehair brush!  But that’s also me just being extra obsessive.  Plus, now my eye is trained to spot out only the items in GREAT condition, and I can see the potential in something that was once cast aside, to give it new life!

What I LOVE most about thrift shopping is that you can find such beautiful, unique, quality, and vintage pieces with character at such a STEAL!  So today, I bring to you another haul video I shot while Lincoln was napping. It’s an accumulation of several different trips to my local Goodwill, whenever Joe gave me an hour or two of precious alone time.

Confession…this was actually filmed a year ago, and it’s hard to believe it took us this long to fish it out of the archives to finally edit it. But the thing is, one year later, I’m still using and loving all of these items, so that’s good to know that my pieces are still “classic” to me.  Looking back, filming this video was like a first step in updating my newer “mommy wardrobe.”  I knew that by investing in some fun new pieces that wouldn’t be affected by my body being in postpartum transition, it would give me the confidence I needed to feel like myself again.

I was able to play dress up and get new life out of my existing closet. So I recommend anyone who’s going through the same thing as me to try going to the thrift store and let it be your playground!  Go with an open mind, and be amazed at what you can find!  Simply by “treating yourself” to some new accessories at guilt-free prices can do wonders for the soul and might be just the thing you need to get your groove back.
