Hey there, I’m Julie your kitchen coach! I’m a trained chef with years of professional culinary and demonstration experience under my belt. I started our blog and YouTube channel with my photographer husband Joe, as a way to equip beginner cooks to gain kitchen confidence.

What’s a kitchen coach?

Someone who’s in your corner, rooting you on, and taking the intimidation out of being in the kitchen! But at the same time, any good coach will push and challenge you to step it up a level and do the things you were too scared to do. This website is more than a food blog. When you explore my 100+ easy recipes and videos, you’ll notice that I always make sure to sprinkle in helpful tips, demonstrate proper culinary techniques, and give you “aha” moments.

Besides step-by-step cooking instruction, I also break down kitchen tools, demystify unique ingredients, and share my tips for shopping, cleaning, and organizing. This is your launchpad for cooking like a pro and learning to LOVE spending time in the heart of your home.

Where to start

Make sure you have the right tools to set yourself up for success! First, invest in a basic knife kit. Grab yourself a reliable chef’s knife without breaking the bank! It will be your kitchen workhorse. With a trusty chef’s knife (my recommendation), you can tackle anything! You might want to start with this video: The Ultimate Knife Guide for the Home Cook.

I cover all the bases for the knives I personally use and recommend. Most of them are budget-friendly while remaining high quality.

For the rest of my tool recommendations, visit our Resources page to take a peek at my kits!

Recipes for “real life”

If you’re not sure where to begin, you can start with these. These are fan-favorite, tried-and-true recipes that are approachable, reliable, and sure to make it into your dinner rotation!

Chicken Teriyaki {At Home}
Yes, you can most definitely make easy chicken teriyaki at home. Try drizzling the sauce over salmon or steak too. No need for takeout!

Lasagna for Two
A small batch of lasagna where you won’t have a ton of leftovers and don’t have to boil the noodles in advance? Yes please!

Sausage and Brussels Sprouts Spaghetti
This one is a proven crowd-pleaser and one of my personal family favorites. You HAVE to try this one!
