Party Planning Prep For Our Son’s First Birthday (Dohl)

If you’re Korean, most likely you will plan a “dohl” for your baby when they turn one. According to tradition, the first birthday is a HUGE deal, where you throw a fancy shindig that rivals a wedding. Some people keep it casual, and I was tempted to do the same thing at first too.  But when I found out my parents were flying in from out of town, and my good friend Audrey from things unseen designs was willing to help me, I decided to go nuts!

I filmed this video as a way to document what it took to throw together this party. Audrey is a talented watercolor and calligraphy artist, so I definitely ended up utilizing her skills to the max. I am a professional Dollar Tree and thrift store shopper… haha, not really but I should be! So I spent my days gathering all the supplies on the cheap and fashioning them together to come up with some legit rustic woodland farmhouse style decor!

It was a lot more fun doing everything with a friend, and it was also the only way I could accomplish anything whilst watching Lincoln full time. Things have changed ever since I became a mom and it’s hard to get anything done outside of everyday household chores, but this party made me feel like I got my groove back! Up next is the video of our actual party, so keep an eye out for that one as well so you can see how we put all our hard work to good use!
