A Love Letter to Our Son (Life With A One Year Old)

After we made this video, it was really hard for me not to tear up a little every single time I watched it, especially at the end. It’s hard to believe that we now have a one-year-old, and he has officially graduated from baby to toddler status! It’s like a switch was flipped the moment he turned this milestone age because that’s also when started being mobile, opinionated, and sassy in a frustrating yet really adorable way!  Diaper changes are wrestling matches, throwing objects is his favorite activity, and meal times are a struggle. But he’s still so cute to me and his koala hugs make up for a bad day.

I feel like time has gone fast, but I also remember all the good times, the hard ones, the sleep deprivation, the random crying attacks (from both Lincoln and me), and joyful moments.  Each day in itself was long in its own way, and I do feel like I aged about 5 years, but I also developed parent-stamina. I always wondered how my friends with kids seemed like they still had energy and were able to juggle all these moving parts and responsibilities, but I’m just starting to understand how. It does take training and time to get there, but it does come!

Stepping into toddlerhood will be an adventure in itself and I’m sure it will require even more patience and endurance, but it’s also becoming more fun and rewarding as well because he has a personality and we have a relationship.  We made this video to show at his birthday party, but I’m also glad we get to share it with all of you. I’m really enjoying him at this age and I hope I remember this time always.
