It’s really ironic that I almost missed out on the meal we considered to be one of our top 5 best meals of our entire Korea trip. This was definitely the best meal we had up to this point and we were in Korea for over a week. I was busy doing work and once in a while, I opted to stay home to edit vlogs or write blog entries. The thing about our line of work is that even when you’re on vacation, you’re never truly on vacation. You’re actually working all the time.
But this time, Joe’s brother kept insisting that I come out and enjoy this meal with them. I’m so glad I finally caved and went because I really had a mind-blowing experience.
We picked up Joel and Sharon from the post-natal care facility. They were there resting and taking care of their newborn twins. Of course we had our niece Kara with us, since she pretty much became our adopted child during the time we were in Korea. Then we went out to lunch at 새마을, a Korean BBQ place.
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much out of this meal at first. But then I saw the thinly shaved slices of pork, covered in a marinade, and I was instantly intrigued. But after I ate their kimchi jigae (kimchi stew) over rice with shredded pieces of dried seaweed, my life was completely changed.
Then we headed over to 설빙 for dessert. It was also my first time eating chocolate shaved ice. It was so much more complex and wonderful than I thought it would be, It wasn’t too sweet or overly chocolatey. The texture of the crunchy dark chocolate curls against the feathery shaved ice was the best part. It was probably my most memorable dessert I had in Korea. I wish I had a chance to eat it more than once. Watch what we did on days 10-11 in our Korea Trip VLOG 5 below:

But every experience was so different and new that it was interesting to us, so it was kind of fun to capture it all. We hope you have been enjoying taking a mini tour of Korea through our eyes. Stay tuned as our Korea Trip adventure continues.
