What I Love About Summer

Isn’t the grass ALWAYS greener on the other side?  Normally, I prefer the Fall and Winter time, mainly because I adore Thanksgiving and Christmas, apple-picking, hot cocoa, snow, and wearing layers with fuzzy Uggs.  Likewise, I tend to dread the Summer because of the intense, sweltering heat & humidity.  I still have nightmares of going to work when I lived in NYC, after walking several blocks to the subway through thick humidity, waiting in the suffocating heat underground, drenched in sweat, and then hopping into a crowded car only to realize that you chose THE ONE car with the AC not working {{shudder}}!

But as I’m here in Chicago for Christmas, in 12 degree weather, typing with frozen fingers and shivering under all my layers and Uggs, I suddenly find myself LONGING for Summer for goodness sakes!  Upon looking at some pictures we took after a trip to the Farmers Market, my heart started pounding as I started to dream about the warm sun and luscious produce that’s cheaply available in abundance.

I can almost taste the plump crisp green beans, sweet soft plums, juicy fleshy peaches, spicy Thai chilis and sharp pungent shallots.  I feel like the summer time inspires me to be much more creative in cooking as well since there are SO MANY wonderfully colorful fruits and vegetables available.  Anyways, for now, I will enjoy the hot cocoa, oranges and Korean pears, while dreaming of bright red tomatoes and a lazy picnic at the beach.
