Homestyle Chicken Noodle Soup : Behind the Scenes

Homestyle Chicken Noodle Soup : Behind the Scenes

Filming this video was pretty straight-forward and stress-free, but the photoshoot afterwards was a doozy!  I blame it on the fact that it was still winter and we literally had no sun that day.  According to Joe, it was the longest photoshoot we ever did after filming an episode.  Who would’ve thought that taking pictures of a bowl of soup would be so difficult?

In the end, the pictures still came out nicely… but capturing that little glisten on the top of the soup was torturous and it required a few tricks.  These are the days I miss living in California… you always have natural sunlight and you just need to snap near a window.  Bah… but it’s okay, Spring is here now!

But like I said, the filming part was actually quite easy and we kept having moments of down time in between scenes, so that gave us time to rest and have more time to talk with all of you!  You can watch us do a little food styling, and hear us chat while shooting our Homestyle Chicken Noodle Soup episode in our Behind the Scenes video below:

I mention in our video that this time I wasn’t feeling so bummed.  That’s because when we shot our last couple of episodes, I was feeling pretty down.  I blame it on the winter blues and just being tired in general.  We’ve been cranking out these videos so fast that I haven’t had time to enjoy the process.

But I’m reminded to pause and be in the moment, and not worry only about getting to the end.  That’s why I’m looking forward to our break after Season 2 is completed.  I think I need time to recharge my batteries and come back refreshed for Season 3.  Luckily, I do have a new approach and attitude to filming these videos.

If all I worry about is pushing “upload,” onto YouTube, then I’m missing the point.  I have to enjoy the entire process of recipe developing, grocery shopping, recipe testing, and filming.  Yeah, there are moments where some of those stages are not particularly fun, (like the long photoshoots), but I have to learn to be thankful for everything, and consider them opportunities to grow.

Joe is being stretched too.  We share in the video that he’s debating about being in front of the camera for Season 3 because he doesn’t like it.  But it seems like our viewers do enjoy it, and I feel like it’s a challenge for him as well.  So if you want Joe to continue being in front of the camera, leave it in the comments below.  Thanks for watching and coming along with us on this journey.
