Steak and Scallion Stir Fry: Behind the Scenes

Steak and Scallion Stir Fry: Behind the Scenes

Sometimes I’m really glad that we started shooting behind the scenes videos.  I’m still not sure if we’re going to continue to do this for every episode going forward, because you probably get the gist of what it takes to shoot our show by now.  But still, it’s amazing to me how each experience is somehow different, and it’s kind of nice to go back and watch these videos ourselves.

This time, we have an impromptu dance session in order to break the ice.  Joe and I were arguing about something, and after a while, you could smell the tension in the air.  So Joe wanted us to loosen up, forget the nonsense, and start shooting with the right attitude.  It’s funny because the question I probably get asked the most lately is, “is it hard to work together with your husband?”

The answer I give them is, “yeah, sometimes it is.”  With any work relationship, there will always be differences of opinions and moments of disagreements.  But when you work side by side with your spouse, you have to be extra mindful.  Egos tend to get bruised more, and heads get bumped often.  But at the end of the day, you can’t just go home and “leave your work at work.”  So we have to be more aware of showing each other grace.

Luckily for us, the dance party did help to make us laugh and forget about what we were fighting about in the first place.  Even if I try, I truly can’t remember why we were so irritated that day.  But that’s the way things usually go for us.  I blame it on the fact that we’re both a little artsy-fartsy.  You can watch how the rest of the shoot went for us, and see some bloopers, in our Steak and Scallion Stir Fry Behind the Scenes VIDEO:

While I was watching this video, I just realized that Joe ate my entire “tasting” plate while sitting in front of the TV even though he was supposed to go out to dinner later that night!  So I guess that proves to show that this recipe is husband approved.

People are surprised that we take so many pauses and “breaks” when filming.  But that’s because it takes different camera angles and lighting in order to get the right shots for all the steps.  It’s definitely more difficult to shoot fluidly when we don’t have all the right equipment and we’re a two-person operation.  We’re still learning as we go and trying to figure out how to work more efficiently.  So one day when we have it all figured out and things run like clockwork, I guess it will be nice to go back and watch all our behind the scenes and see how far we’ve come.

Well, thanks for watching.  It’s always fun sharing our process with you.  I hope you give this recipe a try!  You can watch the actual episode and print out the recipe here: Steak and Scallion Stir Fry

I promise it’s easier to cook than it it is to film!
