Vlog: Trip to Catalina Island

Vlog: Trip to Catalina Island

I have been forreals sick as a DAWG for the last two weeks, and just got over it now.  That meant I wasn’t sleeping, eating, or cooking.  I was simultaneously hacking up a lung, dealing with stomach problems, and super drowsy from being drugged up with medicine.  But any moment I was able to prop myself in an upright position for at least ten minutes at a time, I tried to edit this video. Yeah, so you better watch it dag nabbit.

Joe and I celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary this year by going to a couple places in CA that we haven’t had the chance to visit yet, even though we have been living here for four years now.  Our first stop was Catalina Island.  It’s an island off the coast of Southern California, just 22 miles from Los Angeles.

It’s only about an hour boat ride away from us, but we seriously felt like we were in a different land.  It reminded me of our honeymoon in Maui, because all we had to concern ourselves with was eating, lounging on the beach, and scheduling fun “island style” activities.

It’s definitely been a while since our last real “vacation-feeling” vacation, where we stayed in a hotel, paid for tours, and didn’t know anyone around us.  We do travel a lot, but usually there’s an underlying purpose to it, like we have to go to an important family function. So Joe and I don’t really get to spend time alone to hang out and relax together.

But this time, that’s all we did.  We don’t do much for our anniversaries.  In fact, I don’t recall doing anything at all for our 2nd, 3rd, or 4th anniversaries, but this time, 5 years seemed like a good solid number to celebrate.  So we hopped on a boat and sailed away to an island.

To be honest, there’s not a WHOLE lot to do on the island because it’s so small and everything pretty much closes at night… like at 8:00pm! So you either have to pay for tours during the day or rent equipment for water activities, such as kayaking, or paddle boarding.

So we did some walking….

Eating…

And exploring…

But it was like a photographer’s dream because everywhere we looked, there was something gorgeous to admire and capture.  All in all, it was a cute little island to visit and a perfectly peaceful place to celebrate our anniversary.

If you live in SoCal, I would definitely recommend stopping by at least once, especially since it’s close by, but you still feel like you’re somewhere far away.
