Bobby Sue’s Nuts is a New York based company who uses all organic ingredients and saves the lives of helpless homeless animals. Like Superman? Maybe. This particular feature is very exciting for me because this is the first product that I’ve received for free, all thanks to my little blog-diggity. It all began with this guy named Dave who contacted me after looking through our website.
He said he spent a good half hour on the site and could tell that I knew my stuff! Aw shucks. Then he decided to shoot us an email asking if we cared to try some gourmet nuts for free… um, yeah! But I didn’t want to receive just anything cuz it was free. I looked up their website and saw that they were pretty legit and awesome.
Not only did the packaging and look of the website appeal to me, but their story did as well. The whole company started because they love animals. In fact, part of the proceeds from every jar of nuts sold goes towards building animal shelters! Awww… yes, you mention helping out little furry friends and my heart melts.
Within a week, ding-dong…they were delivered to my doorstep. I didn’t know what to expect. But one thing’s for sure. I did not expect a whole jar for each of their 3 different flavors. Thanks Bobby Sue! When I opened the box, I saw a nice hand written card from Dave. What a nice gesture.
All of the jars are made up of a mix of almonds, pecans and cashews- the expensive nuts… and flavored with only simple, natural, and organic ingredients…plus the animal shelter thing. That’s probably why they come with a steeper price tag. An 8 oz. jar will run you $10.00- $12.00, depending on the flavor. In fact, when I took a look at their site, the first thing that came to mind was, “it looks like they’d sell these at Whole Foods.” Turns out, they just got into the store that I used to work at, as well as 20 other Whole Foods in the Northeast region. They’re also in 100 gourmet and specialty stores in NYC! Congrats Bobby Sue’s Nuts!
I decided early on that I’d feature them on a Friday, but before I did, I wanted to be fair and make sure I got help with the feedback for a review. So I took them to my Wednesday night married couples church small group as a snack. I figured this would be the best way to enjoy them since they’re already flavored and are best used for snacking at a party, not really for cooking. However, the labels on the jars suggest you can use them for baking, which I think would be a grand idea. They’d be mighty tasty baked inside some cookies or banana bread.
This group is a big supporter of our work so they took the taste test seriously, even taking the time to explain in detail which ones they liked and why.
After some munching, pondering, discussion and debate…
These were the results:
original:
This was the favorite for 3 of the gals, including me. The guys liked it too. It is what it says on the jar, “savory and not too sweet,” but it still has sort of a honey-roasted and cinnamon type of taste. The coating isn’t thick and the quality of the nuts really shine through. This is the flavor that would be the best for mindless snacking in front of the TV.
some like it hot:
This was enjoyed by all 4 of the guys because it was a bit odd and interesting. The heat doesn’t hit you right away, but it kicks your throat as you swallow. It’s not hot like wasabi hot. It’s more like a sneaky cayenne pepper hot. These were definitely more savory out of the 3. The girls stuck with the sweeter ones and left this bowl to the guys.
it’s raining chocolate:
Surprise, surprise…this was popular amongst the girls. Only 2 of the guys liked it. But it wasn’t overly sweet like you’d think it would be. It’s chocolate-y, but still with a savory-ness. This one would be the best jar to bring as a present or to a party, because of the physical chunks of chocolate incorporated with the nuts, which makes them look fancy.
Mister Lee (yes that’s the dog’s actual name) was very excited to know that his friends would be saved by these nuts, and he gave them 2 paws up.
The nuts blended in well with the rest of our snacks for the night. We had our meeting, munched, and then relaxed by watching our latest video.
Be sure to check out their website and read more about them and their mission statement. If you’re on the east coast, stop by one of the stores that carries their product, or you can order them online off their site. A warm thanks once again to Dave and Bobby Sue’s Nuts! And a special thanks to our small group for participating in a taste test. I appreciate your honest feed back, which helped me write this review.
