Our boring road trip

Our boring road trip

I’m going to be releasing a series of vlogs from our recent adventures on the east coast.  We were there for about a week and a half and it was jam packed.  This was our second time driving from Chicago to Philadelphia in only a matter of months, but this was the first time we decided to capture it on film.  For those of you who have ever made this trek, you know there is NOTHING to see.  It’s all flat roads and there’s not a mountain, hill, or pond in sight for nearly the entire 12+ hour exhausting drive.

But this time, all we got was the fantastic view of our windshield wipers.  We jumped into the car by 6:30am, hoping to maximize the amount of daylight.  But of course it rained like crazy for about 8 hours straight, which made us feel like we were going through a car wash the entire time.  The gray skies and constant rain were lulling us to sleep and it slowed down our progress.  So the trip took us about 15 hours total in the end, even with only 2 rest stops!  I still can’t believe we only stopped twice.  I think that’s our new record.

But can’t you tell by Joe’s expression how much fun we were having?  So what do we do on long road trips like this one?  Why we have heart to heart deep conversations of course… (cough).  No, we listen to audio books, eat gummy worms, and film a vlog!  So come along and spend some time with us on our boring road trip and watch this video:

I would say that the saddest part of the trip was that we didn’t even get to eat good food.  What a crying shame!  You know that I LOVE my fried chicken, but I was SO disappointed by the rest stop KFC that served me 5 pieces of dinky overcooked and dry wings.  I instantly had buyers remorse when I opened my box and saw my tiny wings huddled together in the corner.

But at least I packed some snacks.  I always pack snacks on road trips.  That’s the best part!  But this time, I packed a lot of fruit because I was busy cleaning out my fridge and making sure our produce wouldn’t go to waste.  It’s kind of funny because some people commented that it seems like we always munch on “healthy snacks” when we go on road trips.  But I do that on purpose when possible because it makes us feel less gross about us sitting there and aimlessly eating for hours.

Oh and please excuse our disheveled appearances.  Joe had about 3 hours of sleep, and I pulled an all-nighter because I was busy editing videos and we both needed to get work done before we left.  So I slapped on my glasses to cover my puffy eyes, yanked my hair back, and called it good.

After a long tiring trip in the rain, we made it to my parents’ house in the suburbs of Philadelphia safely, and ate homemade Korean food.  So even though nothing exciting happened, in the same vein, nothing traumatic or terrible happened either.  So I guess sometimes “boring” isn’t so bad after all!
