Our Cross Country Move

Our Cross Country Move

We had just walked into our hotel room in Albuquerque, New Mexico when we found out that our Kickstarter project, Bits & Pieces, was funded!  We had spent countless hours on the road, driving from California, in our slow-paced moving truck, so this happy news was a much needed treat for our weary souls.  We knew our cross-country road trip to Illinois wasn’t going to be a rip roaring festival of fun.  Our vehicle was enormous because it was a 16 ft. truck with our car hitched onto a dolly behind it.  Therefore, we knew that wherever we went, parking would be an issue, and it was going to be difficult to back up or make tight turns.  Plus, the truck was so heavy that the fastest we ever went was 60mph.

So we couldn’t stop by touristy attraction spots or eat at yummy unique places.  But in any case, it was still an adventure, we had fun, and I felt the need to film our journey.

We spent 5 days on the road, and would drive 8-12 hours a day.  Then we’d get to our hotel pretty late, and stay up until around 1 or 2 am fiddling on our computers to promote our ongoing Kickstarter project.  Even though we were funded during the beginning portion of our trip, we still had a few days to go before the campaign was over, so we wanted to keep at it diligently and finish strong.  And surprisingly, we ended up raising even MORE than our original goal in the end!  Thank you again!

The highlights of my day were when our hotels offered us free breakfast.  We didn’t stay at any nice places that gave us real hot breakfasts of eggs and bacon, but I was happy even if they just gave us coffee and muffins.  Although we were a little sleep deprived throughout our entire trip, thanks to a cooler filled with salads and fresh fruits, we didn’t feel gross from sitting all day and eating nothing but fast food.  I’m SO glad I made time to stop by a Trader Joe’s to load up on healthy goodies before we hit the road.  Highly recommend packing some of your own food, especially fruits.  You’ll feel better about your life.  Oh and Ziplock bags are your best friends on the road.  Remember that too.

Okay, so you may not see many great landmarks and amazing eats in our video below, but you will get some shenanigans, so take a moment to watch it:

Thanks for coming on the road with us.  We’ve been in Chicago for about two weeks, and it feels weird.  I’m still adjusting and feel like I’m just visiting.  But today, we did a lot of work in preparation for Bits & Pieces coming next month and that made me pumped!  I’ll have to write another blog entry with some of the behind the scenes stuff we’ve been working on lately.

Have you ever moved cross country in a moving truck?  How was your experience?
