Guest Blogging on RasaMalaysia.com

So guess what. I was asked by Bee from Rasa Malaysia to guest blog on her site for the day. This happened after my blog friend, Eating and Living was featured, and then it somehow led to me being featured as well!  And this ain’t no small beans people. Bee is a big time blogger, professional recipe developer, and cookbook author.

Her book, “Easy Chinese Recipes” is available worldwide and is currently the #1 best selling Chinese cookbook on Amazon. As a recipe developer, Bee works with brands such as Mizkan America, WorldFoods, Betty Crocker, INSING.com, and more.  And with 2.5 million page views per month, Rasa Malaysia is the biggest independent Asian recipes site on the Internet… ummm….crazy!

Bee asked me to contribute a recipe for traditional kimbap, because she’s on this Korean food kick lately, and didn’t already have a recipe for it on her site. I was instantly filled with all sorts of emotions. Truth be told, I battled within myself for a few days whether or not I should do it. As much as I was honored to be writing on such a big blog, I wanted to stay true to my own blog and point of view. As you probably noticed, I prefer simple cooking that looks gourmet, but without the fuss.  And even though I’m Korean, and love Korean food, I don’t really cook it much.  And if I do, I tend to add my own little Julie twist to it.

I was afraid that if readers from Bee’s blog ventured over to my blog in hopes of finding a plethora of authentic Korean recipes, that they’d be sorely disappointed.  If you’re new to this site, I didn’t learn cooking from my mom in her kitchen, whilst squatting around a tub of freshly made kimchi.  I ended up going to a French culinary school, and then worked for an Italian chef.  So if anything, I tend to lean on my skills I learned there.

So when Bee requested an authentic, traditional, take-a-long-time-to-make Korean recipe, I was conflicted.  Kimbap seems easy, but it’s a pain in the butt to make!  There are so many little ingredients you have to prepare separately, so you wouldn’t normally make this on a week night for an easy dinner.  But, in the end, I sucked it up and took on the challenge.  And what do you know, after everything was done, I actually felt proud to be able to write my own recipe for a traditional dish.  And to stay true to myself, I tried to keep it as simple as I could.  So check out Rasa Malaysia for my kimbap recipe, and then be sure to come back here later to see both my traditional and “Julie” versions.

A special appreciation to Bee for the guest spot.  Thanks for challenging me to step outside of my comfort zone, and to embrace my roots!

  • Every startup needs leads to win new business and to get new customers. If you don’t have customers, you don’t have a business.
Many startups search for new ways to generate the leads via offline, online and word of mouth marketing with dreams of reaching a local, national or global audience.
