So while I wait for my big break in the culinary world in California, in the meantime, I had a chance to work for a 2-day catalog shoot in wardrobe styling for little kids with my friend Yen Do again. We were both there to assist the head wardrobe stylist for Gymboree, Pablo Pavia. For all the trendy moms out there, Gymboree also owns that cute (and pricey) line, Janie and Jack, and Pablo does the styling for them as well.
Gymboree is headquartered in San Francisco, but every month, they fly out the whole crew to Los Angeles, whenever they need to do a photo shoot. This is due to the abundant resource of baby and child actors/ models available. So we all drove to Santa Barbara for the weekend and stayed in a nice (yet oddly designed) hotel across from the beach!

All in all, it was pretty cool hanging out with these kids and watching them have fun, be kids and get messy. The set was low-key and everyone was pretty mellow and relaxed. I guess you can’t really be angry or high-strung around little laughing kids.
The best part was that we got to eat REALLY well for dinners that were all expensed to Gymboree…yeah yuh! Because kids can’t legally work past 8-9 hours, we always wrapped up the shoot around 5pm and had the rest of the night to chillax. Pablo, Yen and I usually spent that time wandering around the main streets or on the beach pier. And we always got to eat really GOOD food.

HOWEVER… the crazy thing is we left Santa Barbara right before a massive California wild fire blazed through that area! I came back home and instantly, the news and CNN were plastered with sad images of enormous roaring fires that burnt down forests and homes. It really WAS a weekend of kids, food and fortunately just-missed fire! I only hope that all the residents of Santa Barbara are ok. My thoughts are with them.
