I’ve never been one to be so serious about my rice. In fact, I’ve never owned a pressure style rice cooker before, but when KEY Company / Cuckoo wanted to send me their NEWEST model to review, the 6-cup DHSR0609F (or DHSR for short), I was super excited. Cuckoo is Korea’s #1 leading brand of rice cookers, so I was thrilled to get my hands on one!
In case you’re wondering, there’s a smaller 3-cup version of this model too, called EHSS0309F, and that’s probably ideal for kitchens with less counter space or households with less people. But I wanted to have the option of making a larger batch of rice if ever necessary, so I chose to stick with the big guy.
I tore open the box like a kid on Christmas morning and couldn’t believe how shiny and pretty it was. It looked like a rice cooker spaceship! But I knew there had to be other legit reasons why it was so special. First off, I’m not going to act like this fancy rice cooker is not pricey… it does come with a pretty hefty price tag. So this peaked my curiosity and led me to do some research on it….as well as make LOTS of test batches of rice!
I still don’t have everything figured out, and it’s a work in progress in learning how to master this beast. But I’m definitely getting more used to it, and we use it almost everyday. You can hear more about the 6-CUP DHSR, and what I think of it in our product review below.

I explain everything much more in detail in the video, but here are a few of my FAVORITE FEATURES:
-The Direct Touch menu buttons
-Blue LED lights
-How it cooks brown rice through the GABA mode
-The soft open lid that doesn’t just pop up at you
-The quieter, gentler steam release after the rice is done cooking
-The automatic cleaning function… you gotta love that!
Not to mention, I like how everything is made out of stainless steel, and certain parts are removable, which allows it to be cleaned easily. In older models, this wasn’t an option.
So far, I’ve only mastered how to cook Korean short grain white rice and brown rice the way I like it. Turns out that with pressure style rice cookers, the amount of water you add makes a huge difference, so if you don’t have your ratios down, your rice might come out either too sticky or too dry. So my one major tip for you is to not necessarily follow the markings on the inside of your rice pot. They can serve as a basic guide, but since every brand of rice is different, the amount of water it requires might vary.
Also, I haven’t tried to steam vegetables, make bread, or cook other foods in there. Apparently you can do so by using the multi-cook button. I’ll probably play around with that soon, but I didn’t want to hold off on doing this review because I wanted to help announce Cuckoo’s Giveaway!

I’m having a hard time getting the right softness of rice from this cooker? I used the Mixed Rice mode by accident once and the rice tasted almost perfect, just using the water line inside the pot with korean brand Rhee Chun rice.
I learned I should be using Glutinous rice setting but the rice has turned out dry and undercooked using the Glutinous Rice mode and water line inside the pot. I even tried My Mode to customize the Glutinous Rice mode to level 2 soft (there’s level 0, 1, 2, 3) but it turned out dry and undercooked!
For an expensive cooker, why is this so hard?? Does anyone have some good settings to share?
