Lemons can marinate your chicken, disinfect your surfaces, and clean your home! They can be one of your greatest assets in your kitchen, because their usefulness goes way beyond cooking. Discover all the unique ways I love to utilize every bit of the juice, peels, and scraps of this versatile fruit in our VIDEO: 10 Ways to Use Lemons Around the House.
I decided to make this video because I was inspired by this older blog post about less obvious uses for lemons, and realized I still used those tips. I knew it was time to share a few more!
We used to live in California and I would dream of having a lemon tree in the backyard. I imagined myself going outside, plucking a fresh lemon off the tree and adding it to my pasta or tea on demand. Now that we’re in Chicago, I usually just buy the giant bag of lemons at Costco. I place them in a big bowl on my counter, so that I’m reminded to use them.
Most of my tips in our video are based around cleaning your home, but I also wanted to leave you some of my many lemon-featured recipes as well:
Lemon and Herb Chicken Tenders
All they take are a quick marinade in a Ziplock bag and you’ve got juicy and flavorful chicken for dinner.
Lemon Chicken Pasta
This is kid-friendly, slightly creamy, and bright with a zing.
Lemon Ginger Sticky Wings
Let the oven do the work and then lick your fingers and smack your lips.
Spring Pasta Carbonara
Heavy carbonara is lightened up with the addition of fresh arugula and lemon.
Spaghetti and Brussels Sprouts Spaghetti
There’s a reason this is one of my most popular pasta recipes!
Chicken Koftas with Couscous
Chicken meatballs are paired with a light couscous and burst of citrus
Mussels with White Wine Sauce
You’ll feel like you’re dining out at home
Salmon with Quinoa and Asparagus
Light, bright, and bursting with complex flavors.
If you search around my recipes long enough, you might notice that I may have added lemon to them just for kicks! Did I mention I have a legit love affair with lemons? Sometimes adding that little splash of citrus at the end of cooking a dish is all you need to brighten it up and give it life.
Hope you found all these ways I like to use lemons and bonus recipes helpful, especially during these times where we’re all staying at home a lot more. Grab yourself a couple lemons, or if you’re lucky, pluck them from your tree, and remember that when life gives you lemons, find a way to use them!
Something I find really helpful when making sure you get every drop of juice out of a lemon is a lemon squeezer like this one. This one works for both lemons and limes and comes highly rated, so I recommend it as part of my tool kit. It will make sure you get the most bang for your buck with each lemon, and you don’t have to worry about picking out any pesky seeds.
