Well hello! It’s been a while. You notice anything different? We gave our website a makeover. That’s what we’ve been working on lately. What do you think? Stay a while and take a look around. Working on our new website design while simultaneously trying to film our cooking videos was tiring to do, but we’re so glad we did it because it’s been on our minds for a while now. I’ve been wanting our blog to showcase more of our personalities, and be organized/ categorized a little differently. I’m happy with the results. I got to do fun things, like draw pictures or select fonts, and not so fun things, like re-write recipes into new templates. But Joe tackled the hardest part…everything else… and I think he did a great job. If there are little glitches or empty categories, it’s because everything’s so new or may be a work in progress.
For instance, we will be adding new videos to the Bits & Pieces Cooking Show Category section, under the Cooking Category, as well as mistakes or recipes that didn’t work out in the FAIL section. But there’s nothing in those sections yet. Oh but don’t worry. I had plenty of failures, and they’re coming.
And speaking of Bits & Pieces, as you know, thanks to our Kickstarter project, which was officially funded in September, we have been working on filming videos for our BRAND NEW online cooking show. The names of the people who supported us can be found under our Partners Category. Thank you again! We’ve been pushed a little behind in our schedule because of some technical difficulties. Long story short, but we had to film our first episode twice! GAH. Yeah, that means, 5 hours of filming went down the drain (insert sad trombone sound). But we’re finally getting it together and everything’s starting to flow better. And now, a look behind the scenes.
Here’s our new “studio,” for now… thanks to my in-laws allowing us to use their kitchen/ house to film. It’s kind of set up perfectly for a show.
As you can see, we are working with a bunch of different materials and some new equipment (thanks to our Kickstarter money) to try to bring our show to life. We’re trying to incorporate different techniques, to add more fun and whimsy to our show.
Everything takes experimentation and requires a learning curve.
Speaking of learning curve, now I know I have to invest in more v-necks and button downs, thanks to my new lapel mic. Did you know it looks weird on crew neck shirts? Well it does. It only took us 30 minutes and two wardrobe changes to figure that one out.
Anyways, besides cooking, lately, I’ve been doing some of this…
And Joe has been doing a lot of this…
And now he has to make a habit of bringing our camera around everywhere we go, because anything can turn into a potential story, and we need to be ready to capture it.
Sometimes while filming, we have different creative visions and are not always on the same page. Hence, we often spend too many hours bickering over the details. We’re trying to get better at this. But even on our hardest days and lowest moments, we always feel grateful to be able to produce something with our own hands, and feel proud of it. This is a long time dream of ours finally becoming a reality. We always have to remember to step back, take a breath, and give thanks.
The best advice Joe gave me while filming was, “it doesn’t have to be perfect.” That helped me to relax and not sweat the small stuff. We can’t wait to reveal our first show. It’s coming next! Thanks for dropping by. Come back soon.
Julie, I absolutely love your creativity. Awesome drawings! Wishing you guys all the best, L.
Thanks Linda! We appreciate your well wishes. Thanks for being the FIRST comment on our NEW site! Glad you like my drawings!
