A couple months ago, Joe’s brother Joel, sister-in-law Sharon, and cute niece Kara, came to visit us on route to San Francisco. But really, they were just pit-stopping in California, on their way to MOVING to Korea! Joel, (yes they are brothers named Joe and Joel… I still get a kick out of that), got a job in Korea as the new Pastor for the English speaking ministry at a church there. It was too much of a great opportunity to pass up, so he and Sharon decided to uproot their family and try something new.
They were only going to be here for a few days, and we knew it would be the last time we saw them for a while, so we wanted to make the most of our short time together.
It became a whirlwind of hunting down good California food, visiting as many places as we could, shopping for last minute supplies, and of course, stopping by the beach. So on one of the days, we decided to head down to San Diego to chillax.
Joe had a fun time being the paparrazi for the day, snapping away all of these quaint family portraits and candid moments. It helped that he had a good model there.
She bravely held onto her dad’s hand as they ventured over to the water, while her mom proudly snapped pics. Joe and I watched from our beach blankets.
After a couple hours of jumping around, a gelato break, and a FUN, yet tiring four-wheeled tandem bike ride, we hungrily set off to eat some Mexican food in Old Town San Diego.
We went to Old Town Mexican Cafe where Joe had the chicken and steak fajitas with a side of their famous hand made tortillas.
And I had the roasted chicken chimichanga with guacamole. I think I’m really Americanized because I was expecting it to have gooey cheese either inside of or on top of it, but no cheese was to be found. It was actually quite light, if you ignore the fact that it was deep fried!
And even though we were all stuffed, we had to end our San Diego excursion with a trip to Extraordinary Desserts in Little Italy.
To tell you the truth, I don’t even remember what we ordered. All I know was that each dessert was plated beautifully and had a little fleck of edible gold on top. Fancy! The 4 of us shared 2 yummy desserts and couldn’t finish them. So I packed up the leftovers to eat the next day. I didn’t complain about that one bit.
The five of us had a lot of fun running around everywhere in a condensed amount of time. It was sad to see them go, but now we can look forward to visiting them in Korea some day. I’m just thankful we were able to spend that precious time to build long-lasting memories together.
