Poached Egg Sandwiches : Behind the Scenes

Poached Egg Sandwiches : Behind the Scenes

That uncertain moment right before we cracked into the poached eggs was intense for us.  We held our breath, said a little prayer, and braced ourselves…

I’ve been putting off filming a recipe involving poached eggs for some time because the truth is, poached eggs can be a little tricky, and the way they come out can be somewhat of a surprise each time.  Sometimes they’re slightly undercooked and too runny, and other times they sit in the water a few seconds too long and become overcooked in an instant.

We only had a couple chances to get it right.  But in the end, Joe got the money shot we needed of the perfectly poached egg with the yolk dribbling down the sides.  And speaking of Joe, might I add that I’m really proud of the way that he has been challenging himself in front of the camera too.  He prefers to stay behind the scenes, but this season, I feel like he’s been pushing himself more and coming out of his shell.

You can catch some bloopers, and experience what it was really like for us while we filmed our Poached Egg Sandwiches episode in our Behind the Scenes video below:

Besides me secretly worrying about how my poached eggs would come out, the rest of the shoot went fine.  No bickering, no construction work outside, and no technical difficulties.

We did have to hustle towards the end so that we could catch all the right shots we needed before the eggs got too cold for us to taste on camera, but it didn’t really work.  In the end, we ate cold eggs.

The irony of this shoot was that even though the eggs took only 4 minutes to cook, we still filmed for hours!  In the video, we shared about how even a 30 minute recipe still somehow ends up taking us 5 hours to shoot.  That’s the way it goes with film, but no matter how difficult or tiring it might be, we’re learning to just ride the waves and enjoy the process more.

I can’t believe this was our second to last shoot for Season 2.  That went by so fast!  Stay tuned for our last episode as well as updates on what’s coming up next!

    • Thanks so much Marge… you’re amazing too ;). So glad you enjoy seeing more of Joe… I like him on camera too but he’s always so hesitant because it’s not naturally his thing. If you have any suggestions on what other types of vlogs you’d like to see from us, we’re all ears!

  • If you have any creative, but easy, sous vide recipes, that would be cool. I got the Codlo from Kickstarter and need some inspiration to use it for more than just eggs. 🙂
