A walk down memory lane

A walk down memory lane

During our recent trip to the east coast, we had to go to Edgewater, New Jersey for our friend’s baby shower.  You can check out our last vlog of our Baby Shower Cupcakes Adventure if you haven’t seen it already.  I was pretty tired from staying up almost all night to make cupcakes, but we still decided to get up early and head over to Edgewater before the shower.  The party location was about five minutes away from where we used to live during our first year of marriage.  So we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to stop by our old hood, shoot a vlog, and take a walk down memory lane!

It’s been nearly six years since our last visit, and I have to admit, as soon as we got there, I instantly felt warm and fuzzy inside.  I know Joe felt the same way too because he’s usually quietly minding his own business, while I jabber away and film our vlogs.  But this time, he was all up in the camera and talking up a storm!  Yeah I’m as shocked as you.

Edgewater is a beautiful place.  It’s right by the Hudson River with a great view of New York City directly on the other side.  Our surroundings were so peaceful, but what I loved the most about it was that it was a good mix of city and suburban life.  You could easily walk to places, but you could also park your car in a normal parking lot.  And it was easy to access New York because the bus stop was right in front of our apartment!

But you can hear more stories and check out our old neighborhood in our video:

This time, Joe was too busy vlogging away to even remember to take pictures like he usually does.  But I’m glad he snapped a picture of this Whole Foods.  This is where I used to work as a Demonstration Chef.  Before this job, I only worked in restaurants or in food styling.  I had no experience in teaching or live demonstrations.  So I didn’t even want to apply to the job posting because the description intimidated me.

But it was only a 15-minute walk from our apartment door-to-door, and I was getting tired of commuting into the city.  So I thought, what the heck… and I applied.  Even the interview process was scary because I had to cook in front of a panel of people and be interviewed at the same time!  Thankfully (and surprisingly) I got the job.

And I think this is how I developed a love, passion, and confidence for teaching others how to cook.  So when I look back at how God connected the dots for me, it all makes sense now.  If I stayed on the path of food styling, I probably would’ve never started this blog.

And lastly, I can’t think about our first year of marriage or Edgewater without thinking of my friend Shauna.  She would come over to our place nearly everyday after work.  It came to the point that it felt weird and empty if she wasn’t there!  We would either eat dinner together, swim in the pool, or walk over to Dunkin’ Donuts for coffee.

We joked that she was our child, but it was so fun having her there, and I’m glad we spent all that time together.  We now live in different states and hardly get to see each other, which is kind of sad.

But everything came back full-circle because almost six year later, we found ourselves back in Edgewater, now attending Shauna’s baby shower!  She’s the one who chose the location and I’d like to think it’s because she subconsciously missed us… haha.  It was good to see her, in our old neighborhood, and create new memories.
