BEFORE and AFTER

BEFORE and AFTER

We didn’t have time to style or stage these “AFTER” pictures of our condo renovation project, because I just couldn’t wait any longer to reveal them to you.  In fact, these pictures were taken immediately after the renovation was completed, before we moved in, and had a chance to clean it.  So pardon the dusty surfaces, and random tools on the counters.  This is real life baby!  But I just wanted to say thanks for patiently going on this journey with us.  If you missed our DEMOLITION PICS or CONSTRUCTION PICS, you can check those out too.

I really enjoyed sharing our process and the things we were honestly going through while trying to film Season 1 of Bits & Pieces.  We’re almost halfway through the season already!  Yes, it was a chaotic, confusing, and tiring time for us, but it’s over now, and we have a personalized new place we can call home.

You guys, some days I have to pinch myself because this is our FIRST place with an updated kitchen.  When we first laid eyes on this small, enclosed, dated kitchen, with the crazy cabinetry, and NO counter space, we didn’t know what to think.  Joe and I knew we were going to make changes, but we never imagined it could transform so much!

I’m probably obsessed with our glass paned white cabinetry the most.  That was one thing I really wanted because I love the “open” look.  If we lived in a loft in the city, I’d have completely exposed shelves holding perfectly stacked pastel ceramic bowls.  But that’s a different look, maybe for another time.

Okay, I LOVE our back splash now…but I wasn’t sure about it at first.  When you’re looking at it in the hardware store, next to all the much more expensive and colorful tiles, you start to feel sad, like it’s too plain and it’s not going to turn out nicely.  But thankfully it did, and I’m really happy about how clean and simple it looks.  Oh and can I just mention that I FINALLY have a faucet with a pull-out spout?  It’s so liberating washing dishes!

Even something simple like changing out our ceiling fan automatically made our old place look a little more contemporary.

We tore down all the “interesting” wall paper, and painted the living room a soft gray.  Before this place, we had been renters who moved every single year, so Joe was against me paying for paints if we were just going to have to paint our walls back to their original color when we moved.  Thus, I lived with white walls in our last few places and secretly dreamed of living in a gray home one day.

And now every single wall in our entire place is painted!  This once peach-brown small room became a light lavender grey office for me.   It’s the only “girly” color we have in our entire place.

And Joe’s minty green office became blue.  These are Joe’s parents above, who scoped out the place with us.

Then all our closet doors got replaced.  It’s funny because in newer places, you don’t even have to think about things like that because it comes standard.

But we had to replace all our bedroom doors and the front door too.

All the tiled floors in our condo, like in the laundry room and bathrooms, had to ripped up and replaced because they were broken or damaged.

The bathrooms were a nightmare.  They lacked foundation in the flooring.  So we had to pull out the tiles, toilets, and vanities.  But that was fine with us because everything was so old and nasty anyways.  This is our guest bathroom.  Feels weird to say that because this is the first time we even have a second bathroom!

And this is our master bathroom vanity.  We had to buy the lights, mirror, faucet, counter top, and cabinet bottom all separately, and from different stores!

The shower floor in the master bathroom was in bad shape.  We thought it was just dirty, but later found out that it needed to be completely resurfaced because whoever lived there before us used regular house paint to coat the floor!  That’s why it was chipping.

For our master walk-in closet, we went to Home Depot with measurements and a notepad.  We looked at our options on our budget, and drafted up this solution.  Then we worked with our contractor to be resourceful with the materials, and he did a good job cutting up and using every last piece.

After the walls and trims were painted, and the carpet was replaced, all there was left to do was to clean, and move in!  We completed the entire job, along with all the repairs within 30 days.  And thankfully, we passed our final inspection from the HOA with no problems!  That’s it for our somewhat unexpected condo renovation project.  I hope you enjoyed going through the process with us.  I’ll write about our experience of moving into our new home next, because that’s a story in itself!  And we have a kitchen tour VIDEO coming up, so stay tuned for that and more.
