Mario Lopez and The Pioneer Woman

Mario Lopez and The Pioneer Woman

No, this is not the title of some kind of scandal on the cover of US weekly magazine.  It’s just a description of the WILD day I had courtesy of my 2 1/2 friends, Janice, Eunice and little Meghan.

We went to the Grove in LA to snab some wristbands that would allow us entry to a book signing by popular blogger and author, Ree Drummond, otherwise known as The Pioneer Woman.  If you’ve never stumbled across her blog before, that’s because you’re probably just like me who wasn’t even aware of the vast blog world until quite recently when I became part of it.  But Janice introduced this blog to me about 2 years ago, since she is a blog snooper, so I am now a late bloomer fan.  Ree’s blog has been around and steadily getting more and more popular by the year since 2006.  She now has a published cookbook, children’s book, and romance novel based on her true life story.

After getting to the Barnes & Noble by 9am to get our orange wristlets, we ate the MOST DELICIOUS shrimp burrito that we’ve ever had…so much so that we kept talking about it long after it was gone and we were sad that we didn’t have more.  But our thoughts of the burrito were rudely interrupted by the sight of the dimples on the face of no other than Mario Lopez! Yes, he was there to shoot a couple scenes for his Extra show.  He is my very first celebrity sighting in LA.  Congratulations AC Slater.  You are my first!

But after realizing that we wouldn’t be on TV, we decided to go to Eunice’s home, which is right by the beach, in order to kill time before the signing that would take place at night.  That’s where we saw crazy fan man flying through the air.  This dude literally took off from the very sand we were standing on, into the sky, sitting on what seemed like nothing more than a chair with a huge fan and a parachute.  It looked mighty dangerous as he was whizzing in circles all over our heads, but to each one his own!

Then I couldn’t stop thinking of the shrimp burrito and decided to whip up something similar at Eunice’s, using only the ingredients I found by raiding and rummaging through her kitchen.  Lucky us… she had just about everything we needed for us to eat a 3:00 linner or dunch of shrimp burrito round 2 ala Julie style.

Then off we went, back to the Grove, to stand in the FRONT of the line to wait for Ree.  I have to admit.  I’m only a mini-fan.  I appreciate her work and I am inspired by her personality and blog, but I am NOTHING like Janice.

This girl is coo coo for coco puffs over her and she was tongue-tied and star-struck by the sight of Ms. Drummond.

Eunice and her baby, Meghan also got her mugshot with P-Dub.  She was equally as excited as Janice.

But the cutest part was how goo goo gaga Ree was over little Meghan!  She even decided to take a picture on her own camera of the little tyke.

And guess what, she even made it onto her blog!  In fact, as a bonus, we did too!  The following 2 pictures were taken from Ree’s camera:

On our way out, we noticed that the line was MUCH longer than we even thought it would be, which was made up of 3 floors of people of all ages, patiently waiting to meet the author.  I can only dream that one day the same line of people might be waiting for me!

Eunice and Meghan had to say toodaloo at this point, but Janice and I stopped by K-town for some scrumptious black soybean noodles (jajangmeon) and sweet and sour pork (tang soo yook), before heading home to our husbands in the suburbs and our quiet little lives.
