Home is Where the Heart is

Home is Where the Heart is

I’m currently in Pennsylvania, at my parents house because my grandmother passed away…sad I know…hence the reason I’ve been pretty silent on my blog lately. Joe and I hopped on the red-eye and flew over as soon as we could. Our family is small so it would definitely be noticeable if we were missing.

After a few days of all the funeral and family things, Joe and I are going into New York today…back to our old stomping grounds where I lived as a single young adult, where we dated and got engaged at the top of the Rockefeller Center. If you didn’t see the weather report, it’s 100 degrees with humidity. Thinking of being trapped under the subways in this suffocating heat doesn’t sound too tempting right now sitting here in my parents’ nicely air-conditioned house. I wake up and usually chat with my parents before they go off to their store.

Being back here makes me feel like I’m a high school student again, with all their nagging and asking me to run errands or do things for them. But I’m pretty thankful to be home. Although I admit, I can no longer stand the humidity by being spoiled by the crisp California air, it is so nice to be able to see family and old family friends again-people you have a history with. Joe leaves for California before I do. He wants to make sure I have enough time “being on the East Coast” so I don’t feel homesick like I had been this past month for some reason. His family is in Illinois and I’d like to see them again soon too. I’m a family person. I always wished I had a big family with all these extended cousins and stuff. Joe’s family is HUGE, which is different and nice.

It’s hard to be separated from family, but living far away from everyone also makes us independent and frugal! I feel like we’ve grown so much in the past year and a half in California. I’m starting to feel like we do have roots there now. My parents haven’t had the chance to visit us yet, but I hope to fly them out there someday soon. Anyhoos, we should probably head on out to the concrete jungle now. It’s good to be home.
